My process started with an initial viewing of the film, followed by inspiration pieces I was given by Phos to communicate what he was looking for in the piece. The film was a thriller piece that uses the Mandarin language to include cultural superstitions and morals in relation to family matters.

I used still-shots from the film to find visual elements that I can incorporate into the poster, which lead me to creating a drawing with a symbolic objects in the film, oranges and scissors. The alteration and colouration of the illustration serves a purpose of a horrific yet bright colour palette as the film takes content family moving in to a new house in the beginning, to taking a dark turn as mysteries arise within the estate.

The floral background is a digitally illustrated piece I drew inspiration from the wallpaper inside the house the film takes place in. The faded visual of it is used to replicate that wallpaper feeling while not drawing too much attention away from the main illustration and typography.
